FAQs
Can you help me?
My areas of expertise include: hormonal health (including PCOS), prenatal and postnatal nutrition, perimenopause and menopause, fertility support, blood sugar imbalances (including pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes), weight management, and individuals looking for integrative/functional medicine.
At this time, I work virtually with adult clients only. Families, children, and individuals outside of my scope of practice will be best served by another Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
Please note, if you are searching for nutrition support in other areas, I’m happy to connect you with a colleague who can best meet your needs.
How much does it cost to work with you?
Accessible medical nutrition therapy is my passion, and I’m committed to helping you find care. I’m in-network with Aetna, United Healthcare, and Cigna - with more insurance networks to come. Many in-network clients pay $0 out of pocket, but it is up to you to understand your copay or coinsurance (if any!). Once you schedule your initial session through Berry Street, our team will verify your insurance information and let you know your full benefits. Please reach out to me with any insurance questions.
If Emily Grace Nutrition is out-of-network or you would rather pay cash, nutrition counseling sessions range from $60 to $130. I do work with some clients on a sliding scale, but opportunities are limited. Please reach out if you are facing financial hardship and are requesting a sliding scale payment.
What can I expect in an initial consultation? What about follow ups?
You will meet with me via my HIPAA compliant video telehealth system (Berry Street). Our initial session will last between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on your preference & your insurance plan. During this time, we will first get to know one another. Then, we will dive into your medical history, food and eating patterns, stress levels, movement and activity, and sleep. This session is what I refer to as “information gathering” and setting appropriate expectations. Lastly, we’ll determine your “big” health goals and then work backwards to create simple, actionable steps for success. You’ll typically leave your first session with one goal to start with, a multitude of handouts to review, and access to me in between sessions for questions or clarification on the information you learned.
In our follow up sessions, we will reflect on your progress toward your health goals. We’ll tweak our game plan as necessary, add on additional steps for success, and ensure that you achieve a sustainable and healthy lifestyle. I am passionate about providing extensive education so that you can make appropriate choices for years to come - and have the resources to remember the education, too!
How many nutrition counseling sessions will I need?
There’s no one-size-fits all approach to nutrition. Some studies show that new habits form in 30 days, other habits may take up to 90 days to become routine. Because of this, I often work with clients for 10 to 20 sessions yearly. You will have opportunities to journal, track symptoms, and message me in between sessions so you are fully supported in your nutrition journey.
Think of working with me like you would a therapist - nutrition counseling is an ongoing relationship! As your body, health, and season of life changes, your nutrition goals and needs will change as well. I am a resource in your back pocket to help you every step of the way.
How are you different than other nutritionists?
This is a great question - and I love diving into it! I am a Registered Dietitian, not just a nutritionist. Registered Dietitians are the experts in food and nutrition, as we not only earn our Master’s degree but intern in nutrition for over 1200 hours. This means that altogether, I have 6 years of educational experience in nutrition. This does not even include 75 hours of continuing education every RD cycle! This is what allows me to provide you with nutrition counseling that may be in-network with your health insurance plan. To be a Registered Dietitian, you have to live and breathe this field :)
Outside of my credentials, I am also an expert nutrition writer and have contributed to articles in Forbes, Sports Illustrated, Goodrx, and Next Avenue, among others. I have also been interviewed and featured in Yahoo and the Berry Street Journal.
